Those of us in the U.S. have Halloween on October 31st and most children dress up and go trick-or-treating. For those of you with little ones who don't / can't eat candy or who ordinarily wouldn't go trick-or-treating, maybe this year you can try an easy and fun way to spread CDH Awareness and raise money in honor/memory of your cherub.

Instead of, or in addition to, asking for candy, your children can ask for spare change or a donation for CHERUBS. You can create a sign for the front of your trick-or-treat bag with a photo of your cherub and a paragraph or 2 about CDH and CHERUBS. I'll try to make up an example to download this evening. Ok, so you're thinking "But Dawn, spare change isn't much. Is it worth the trouble?" $5 from 20 trick-or-treaters is quite a few brochures to hospitals! UNICEF has been doing this for years and it works well.

Angel / cherub costumes are easy to find and make. I whipped up one for Shane in less than a day when he was 2. You can also use aluminum foil or tinsel for halos and wings. Here is a photo of Shane dressed as a cherub. http://www.cdhsupport.org/members/album_pic.php?pic_id=420 We decorated his stroller to look like a cloud.

AND take lots of photos!!!!! We'll be using these photos of cherubs and siblings in future newsletters and fundraisers. In fact, let's make calendars out of all the kids in costume! Cherubs, siblings and cousins. If we can get at least 12 kids to participate we'll make calendars for 2008.

Stephanie, we'd love it if Shelby dressed up! I'll add a section to the photo album for those trick-or-treating photos.

Really cute angel costume pattern made from a large pillowcase and minimal other supplies.

Is This Not the Cutest?

Image

From http://familycrafts.about.com/od/costumes/ig/Costume-Photo-Gallery/Angel-Costume.--eB.htm

""This is my daughter and her angel costume I made for her on Halloween (without a pattern - Its all from my head). I used polar fleece so that she'd be warm and gold ribbon for the trim. I bought the sheer material with gold stars on it for a more fancy look. I made the wings from a clothes hanger, old nylons, and store bought white craft feathers. It was a lot of work, but, as you can see, my little angel was worth it!" ~ Erin Nightingale"

You can also use a white footie pajama too and it would be adorable!

Or for those non-crafty moms and dads, this site has some great costumes - http://www.brandsonsale.com/baby-angel-costumes.html?aw=baby.angel.costume&match=exact

Includes 5 baby and toddler angel costumes.

My mom had a great idea for this - you cant print up little business cards saying you are Trick-or-Treating for CHERUBS in honor/memory of _________ (insert cherub's name here) and a little blurb about CDH with our site address. Then they can be even more educated about CDH. You can educate your entire neighbor or city block!

And remember - siblings and cousins and friends and whomever can dress up as angels / cherubs too!

Take photos please! Smile
